Coffee

This is one of the most valuable cash crops at Amla farm and Uganda at large. We train farmers all over the country in the best organic ways of managing coffee plantations, making products from coffee like coffee wine, coffee oil, coffee powder, among others.

We also make and sell certified coffee seedlings of improved robusta (KR and CWDR varieties) and arabica to our clients. These are both of cuttings and elite type depending on the customer’s choice. We have been tried and tested by many institutions and farmers in Uganda who have bought our seedlings over time. These include NARO, Bamu cooperative SACCO, Rotarians etc

Bananas

This is one of the most widely consumed food especially in central and western parts of Uganda. The plant also has an economic value through sale of banana bunches, suckers, products from bananas like crisps, flour, roasted plantains aka gonja etc. However, most of our local bananas have been greatly attacked by pests and diseases and amla farm comes with a special natural pesticide called Eco defender that has shown progress at managing banana pests and diseases.

Amla farm produces cheaper local diseases free suckers through macroproapagation and tissue culture techniques. These include Musakala, Muvubo, Nakitembe, Kisansa, Kiwangazi, Nakabululu, Ngwabuzito, Siira, Mpologoma, Gonja, Mbwazirume, Sukaali ndizi among others

We also make value added products from bananas like banana flour, syrup, dried fruits and craft products

Cocoa

Cocoa is another cash crop that has played an important, vibrant role in rural economies worldwide. It continues to do so today, providing families with income and communities where it is grown and harvested. Cocoa is the primary ingredient in chocolate. At Amla farm we provide quality seedlings, value addition and we are looking into exporting them soon. It only takes 2 years to mature with each tree giving you an average of 30 fruits per season.

We also do cocoa oil extraction, chocolate making and cocoa powder which flavors tea, beverage and food.

Castor plant

Scientifically known as Ricinus communis, Castor plant has been a good plant with medicinal and industrial purposes. It is grown mainly for seed production which is used to produce castor oil. The plant is easy to plant and takes between 4-5 months for it to flower and 2months for the seeds to mature.

Each castor tree can give you an average of 5kg of castor seeds each kilo ranging between 5000 to 8000=. And a liter of castor oil goes for between 50,000= to 100,000=

Herbs and spices

With a lot of herbs and spices in our country, Amla farm exploits them by extracting essential oils, aromas, and herbal teas which are then used for medicinal and industrial purposes. The essential oils have been also used in massage parlors and aroma therapy.

We grow and add value to herbs like rosemary, lavender, citronella, chamomile, lemon grass, cinnamon, sage, basil, aloe Vera, lemon eucalyptus, thyme, stevia, among others. We trained many farmers how to extract both essential and virgin oils through steam distillation and cold press methods respectively.

Yoghurt making

We also train our farmers how easily they can turn their milk into yoghurt using cheaper commercially available microorganisms. This has changed many lives of individuals because it is a simple technique which can be done in less than 24 hours with little capital.

Apple growing

With the increasing demand of apple fruits in Uganda, amla farm took an initiative to train farmers to invest in apple growing. Many apples in Uganda are imported from south Africa and Kenya, and with our initiate we hope to do an import substitution which will save the country millions.

Apples require cool temperatures, well drained fertile soils and they have ready market. On average an acre can accommodate about 300 trees with each tree bearing an average of 20 apples.

Eco defender

At amla farm, we are very mindful of nature conservation and overall human health. We advocate for use of organic pesticide and fertilizers on our crops. Eco defender, a biofertilizer and bio pesticide, has carefully crafted from nature using fermented rabbit urine, tithonia diversifolia, tobacco extracts, neem oil among others. This natural product has been tested and used by many of our farmers and and shown potential at improving crop yields while eliminating crop pests and diseases. It has been used on bananas, coffee, tomatoes, vegetables, apples, cocoa, and ornamental plants.
